Mystery Game Video

Lately, I have been working on some of the visuals for the Mystery Game, so it is time to show it off a bit.  No this is not CGI, it is all in game footage! Wait, you didn't think it was?  Anyway, it features the first ship.  It is still a work in progress, but I am quite pleased with how it turned out.

Rift Video

Yesterday, the third beta event for Rift began.  I received an invite for this one, so I could not resist logging in and checking it out.  For those who could not attend the beta, I recorded my time there with some audio commentary.  Continue on for the video.

The Evolutionary Void

A couple of days ago, I finished up the latest book by Peter F. Hamilton, The Evolutionary Void.  It is the last entry in the Void Trilogy and the latest in Hamilton's Commonwealth series of science fiction books.  As usual, I loved it.

Starting Small

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned a new project of mine, creating a video game.  It is something I have been wanting to do for a while and now the time seems right.  Today's tools can save the part time game maker a ton of time.  I don't have any illusions (or is it delusions?)  about making a MMO or the next Call of Duty.  Instead, I am starting small.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to my readers out there.  I hope Santa brings you some good games to play.  This is a slow time of year for most companies, so I am actually looking forward to January when things start to pick up again.  Have a good weekend!

Back to the Future Impressions

The big news for many yesterday may have been the dropping of the Rifts NDA, but for me it was the release of Back to the Future: The Game.  First a disclaimer, I am a big fan of the movies.  So my point of view is liking it by default.  On to my spoiler-free impressions!

My WAR Wishlist

Earlier this week I posted my personal wish-list.  Now it is time for what I'd like Santa to bring me as far as WAR goes.  He is a MMO developer right?  I expect him to sneak down Mythic's chimney and get this done.  I suppose his elves could do all of the needed art.

Werit's Christmas List

This is not one of those MMO wishlists, although I should do one of those this week.  Instead this post will offer a peek at what I put on my Christmas list.  I have been a good Dwarf this year, so here's hoping :)  In case you are looking for some last minute ideas, maybe these will help.

News from the Front: Lackadaisical Edition

It seems an illness is moving through our household.  As usual, I think it is a Destruction plot to keep me on the sidelines.  As a result, News from the Front will be a bit short this week.  I think lackadaisical is the longest word ever used on this blog, that's news isn't it?

Creativity

Every once in a while I get in a hyper creative and productive mood.  The Arsenal of WAR was born out of one of them.  In between these periods I am quite content just playing games.  Over the past week I have have fallen into one, leading towards me trying to complete a long time goal.  I want to create (and finish) a video game.

The Nerfbat Cometh

During yesterday's maintenance period, Mythic applied a change to the Warrior Priest and Disciple of Khaine careers.  As with most changes, it was not without some controversy.  Some liked it, some did not and some just went nuts.  Business as usual on a MMO forum.

Skaven Report Card

One of the big features which came in the 1.4 patch was playable Skaven.  They were not traditional classes, but allowed you to assume control of them for a while.  There are 4 Skaven classes, each very different.  Now that they have been live for a while, how did the Skaven do?

Starting Over

I decided against bringing over my level 80 Warrior to Rexxar, so essentially I will be starting over with my Goblin Hunter.  I'm actually pretty happy about that, there's something about starting from nothing and working your way up.  No heirloom items, no crafted stuff from friends and not even any started gold.  Well, it's time I get started.

News from the Front: 12/10/2010

I couldn't think of a good title this morning.  I suppose that is one of the drawbacks to posting first thing in the morning.  We are definitely in the holiday season, which means not too much WAR news.  The fight rages on though, as players make their way through the new Renown ranks.

Developer Communication

It used to be that the strange and mysterious creatures, known as developers, were a rare sight on MMO forums.  Nowadays, MMO developers are much more open and in-touch with their customers.  Some moreso than others, of course.  One developer has really raised the bar.

New Renown Tactics

When 1.4 launched, Renown Tactics were removed from the game.  The slots remained in the UI and now we know why.  During yesterdays Hot Fix, a few new renown tactics were added to the game.  There was also a change to an important renown ability.  Read on for the details.

Arsenal Updates

Over the past week, I have been working on some new additions to the Arsenal of WAR.  I have also started to see new post Renown Rank 80 armor and items used in the field, which have been added to the item database.  Still lots to do though, read on for the latest Arsenal of WAR news.

Werit does Warcraft

In this week, this is very tough, in this week I'm going to take my talents to Azeroth and join the Horde.  Just part time of course.  I will be taking up the Horde's cause as a Goblin Hunter.  Green guy with a gun who loves explosives, how can I resist?

Don't sweat the small stuff

Last week, an interesting thread popped up in the Badlands forums.  I only visit them infrequently, so when it was pointed out to me I had to take a peek.  It turned out to be a post questioning bloggers (in a negative way).  The original post really was not all the bad, the rest of the thread is a different story.

News from the Front: It's back!

After a two week hiatus, News from the Front has returned.  With the Thanksgiving holiday last week, things have been a bit slow.  The post-new content lull hasn't helped much either.  Mythic is in bug fixing mode, so I am not expecting anything really exciting for a while.  What is the community up to?

Close Quarters

Yesterday, I took part in a fight for Chaos Wastes.  It was actually a lot of fun as I soloed and duo-ed with a guild mate most of the time.  Plenty of fighting and a lot of renown.  I also took part in an interesting keep defense, of which I took some video.

Latest Hot Fix

Yesterday, Mythic released a new Hot Fix.  While it did not address some of the more pressing bugs (I'm looking at you keep bags), it did add a couple interesting changes.  Read on for the details.

The Armor Problem

With the 1.4 patch, came better gear.  Like most every other MMO, this involved adding greater amounts of stats to each piece.  In order to keep the resulting stats/percentages sane, formulas were adjusted to take a players Renown Rank (above 80) into account.  While this was a necessary step, it has caused a bit of an uproar among the physical damage Ranged DPS careers.

Tirew in 1.4

With the release of Warhammer Online's 1.4 patch, I decided to retool my RR70 Engineer, Tirew.  The career itself did not see major changes, but with the new renown system came a free respec.  So how has 1.4 affected my Engineer?

Space Doctrine

I took a holiday on Friday, but now I am back for a long uninterrupted week of work.  Most of my time off was spent with family, but I did get a little bit of gaming time in.  Some of it was spent in Star Trek Online, where I finally settled on a strategy for space combat.

Gobble Gobble

It's Thanksgiving here in the US.  A day of food, family and Football (not Soccer).  As such, today's post will be somewhat appropriate for the day.  It is traditional, in some family's, to say what you are thankful for.  Usually this is done while staring at a large turkey. Mmmmm.... anyway, on to what I am thankful for!

Hot Fixin

Yesterday, Mythic released their first hot fix since the launch of the 1.4 patch.  It actually had a lot of good stuff in it.  I wouldn't say it fixed everything, but it should help out on a number of key issues.  You can find the hot fix notes here.  So how do these affect WAR?

Arsenal Updates

Last week, the Arsenal of WAR was updated to be '1.4 compliant' (fancy sounding).  Since then, I have been playing a lot of the 1.4 patch.  I did manage to pull myself out of game and have added a few more features to the Arsenal, which will hopefully make it more useful.  Read on for the details.

1.4 Impressions

The Verminous Horde has been with us for a few days now and has gone through several prime time gaming sessions.  I did get to put in some time on it this weekend, not as much as I would have liked, but such is life.  Still, over the past 4 days I have been able to put together some impressions.

Having trouble with the EA Store?

If you are in a region that is having trouble using the EA Store to buy the RvR Packs, you might want to check out this post.  It seems as if adding &ipr=ox to the end of the URL's might help with redirection issues.  I could not verify, but it could be worth a shot.

The Verminous Horde Arrives

No News from the Front this week, too tired from playing WAR.  It shall return next week though!  The 1.4 patch hit the live servers yesterday, and I thought it wen pretty well.  Sure, there were some problems but I got to play quite a bit more than I thought I would.

1.4 launches today

The wait is over, WAR's 1.4 update goes live today!  It has been a while since we had a patch of this magnitude, so I am enjoying the anticipation.  With a patch comes downtime.  I'm not sure any major patch goes as planned, so we may be waiting a while to check it out.  Here is some stuff to do to help pass the time.

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

24 hours to go

Well, probably a bit more than 24 hours due to patch downtime.  Close enough though!  Tomorrow is the launch of Warhammer Online's 1.4 patch and RvR Packs.  This is the biggest update since the Land of the Dead was introduced.  I'm pretty excited, but there are a few things I am especially looking forward to seeing.

My new pet

Last night, I was taking care of some business in Altdorf when I discovered that I had a new follower.  He begged and pleaded to join my crew, but a Dwarf does not need any help from someone like him.  I did agree to a picture so he could have a souvenir.

The Devidians

The latest Feature Episode series, The Devidians, wrapped up this weekend in Star Trek Online.  Overall, I thought it was an excellent quest line.  I even went back and watched the Time's Arrow episodes from The Next Generation to get in the mood.  I won't spoil anything, but STO's weekly episodes have impressed me.

1.4 and the Arsenal

Late last week, Mythic announced that the 1.4 patch, The Verminous Horde, will go live this Thursday (11/18)!  That includes the new Open RvR system, the RvR packs and the Skaven instance.  I thought it would be soon, but this week is a very nice surprise.

News from the Front: The best armor

The best armor is to keep out of range.  In case you can't, there is a lot of new armor to choose from in Warhammer Online.  During the PTS event held on Wednesday night, players got their first look at the Doomslayer and Warpforged armor sets.  New gear does indeed bring in the crowds, as Mythic's PTS server filled up.

Thursday, November 11, 2010

1.4 RvR Video

Last night, Mythic held another PTS event for the upcoming 1.4 patch.  We tested the new RvR system from start to finish, including the new armor sets, Thanquol's Incursion and playable Skaven.  It was packed as 500 players participated.  I had to wait in line a little bit, but I did make it on.  Continue on for the video.

The Power Divide

In most MMO's, expanding the game involves giving players better equipment.  Warhammer Online is no different, except that the impact new and improved gear has is much more pronounced.  The better the gear, the more easily players can kill those without it.  Mythic is well aware of this problems and has plans to address it in the upcoming 1.4 patch.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

RvR Packs

Last week, Mythic announced the details of the RvR Packs which will be available with the 1.4 patch: The Verminous Horde.  Am I the only one who thinks of Vermicious Knids when I read that?  The article pretty much outlines what we can expect with the RvR Packs and how much they will cost.

Bridge Officers

One of the interesting features of Star Trek Online is the Bridge Officers.  They are a cross between companions/pets and your character.  Since I recently started up playing again, I was really at a loss on how they worked.  This post will cover some of what I learned.

News from the Front: Matchmaking!

Well, it has been quite a week for WAR.  Plenty of news to talk about and the blogosphere shows it.  This weeks News from the Front will focus on it.  I'm going to take the weekend to think about it and will have some opinions to share next week.  In a surprise twist, Andy revealed some very interesting news last night.

NOTE: RvR Pack pricing announced!  Both for $15 usd.

My new toys

So I hopped on during lunch and bought myself a few new items from the eastore.  First was the new Herald Pet.  Sure, I think it is kinda odd to have on the Order side, but it fits in nicely with my Black Orc.  I also bought the Starter Mounts, so my alts can move around 25% faster.  Pictures after the break.

WAR's Store and 1.4

Yesterday was a busy day as far as Warhammer Online news go.  First was the discovery of the 1.4 patch notes, which have not been officially posted yet.  Then WAR's section in the eastore went live.  What does this all mean?

Arsenal Updates

The Arsenal of WAR is coming along.  With all the PTS action of late, my time to devote to it has shrunk a little.  I did manage to add a few new features, which I hope the community will find useful.  Read on for more details.

Explosions of a different variety

Over the past couple of weeks, I have started to get the ol' Star Trek itch.  Every once in a while I actually want to play some PvE, and this time I wanted it to be some sci-fi.  It seems I was still subscribed to STO, so I figured I may as well fire it up.

Monday, November 1, 2010

Defense in 1.4

One of my fears with the upcoming 1.4 patch is that defending a keep will become much harder than it currently is.  The new open RvR system is focused on taking your enemies keep.  When you do, your side wins the zone.  Not only have the mechanics changed, but players will have more tools to use.

News from the Front: Take that, you dirty Rat!

I'm gonna give you to the count of 10 to get your ugly, yellow, no-good keister off my property before I pump your guts full of lead! One, two, ten!  Sorry, Home Alone has been on a lot in my house.   There have been 2 testing sessions this week and a third happening this afternoon.  The Skaven are really starting to come together.

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Playable Skaven Video

Last night, Mythic held a PTS event to test out the new Open RvR system.  Much to my surprise, they also enabled the new playable Skaven.  This is the first time we have gotten a look at them, so it is a little rough.  I did manage to get a hold of one a few times, so I took some video.

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

What do you want?

One of Warhammer Online's upcoming features has received a good amount of criticism from the player-base.  Thanquol's Incursion is supposed to be a nice kind of RvR experience which uses some raid style bosses.  Most of the feedback has been against the inclusion of PvE elements.

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Introducing the Item Depot

I'm happy to announce a new feature for the Arsenal of WAR, the Item Depot.  I think it is best described as a shopping cart for WAR items (Weapons, Armor, Potions and Talismans).  You just add items to the depot and it will add up all of the stats for you.  Read on for more details.

Banner Contest Winner

Today marked the end of the Arsenal of WAR's banner contest.  There were some nice entries so thank you to everyone who submitted one.  There can be only one winner though, and I especially liked this banner. Check it out after the jump.

About the RvR Dungeon

On Friday, the second test of the new RvR Dungeon: Thanquol's Incursion was held.  It lasted much longer than the first and had a good amount of player participation.  The reaction was mixed as expected.  It is a mostly new concept they are going after, so I don't expect it to be perfect right off the bat.

Friday, October 22, 2010

News from the Front: New Stuff

It has been one of those mornings, so the title is especially not creative.  The big topic in the WAR community has been all of the new stuff up on the PTS.  A lot of 1.4's equipment can be viewed but not used yet.  I'm still surprised how fast Mythic is moving on this, it'll be live before we know it!

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Thanquol's Incursion Video

Last night was the first PTS session to test Warhammer Online's new RvR dungeon, Thanquol's Incursion.  Sadly, the test was cut short due to a bug, but that is what the PTS is for.  I was lucky enough to make it into an instance.  Continue on for the video.

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

RvR Dungeon - Thanquol's Incursion

Yesterday, Mythic surprised us with a detailed article about how the new RvR Dungeon will work.  Now it also has a name, Thanquol's Incursion.  If you remember, Thanquol is one of the bosses we will square off against. This isn't a traditional dungeon by any stretch of imagination.  Read on for the details.

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Skaven Skills

We know that in the upcoming RvR Pack we will be able to play as Skaven.  There will be 4 class: Rat Ogre, Packmaster, Warlock Engineer and the Gutter Runner. I did some more investigating and found some of the skills we will be able to use.

Monday, October 18, 2010

Love to Hate

Part of what makes Warhammer Online so fun to me is the rivalries that naturally develop from PvP.  In PvE games, I don't really care about what the npc's I am killing are.  Wheeee, another Gnoll dead, on to the blue ones!  In WAR, just defeating certain classes brings a smile to my face.

Friday, October 15, 2010

News from the Front: Return of the Banhammer

Well, sorta.  Mythic added right click spam reporting and escalation, so I hope spammers will get what's coming to them.  My game time has been split this week between my Badlands Engineer and my Karak Norn Black Orc.  Having a lot of fun on both characters.  What is the community up to?

Thursday, October 14, 2010

Arsenal Updates

Over the last week I have been trying to play WAR more than working on the Arsenal of WAR. PTS Events don't help matters as they can be a lot of fun too. Even so, there have been some improvements.  Read on for the details.

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

So Long WARDB

It looks like wardb.com, WAR's primary item database for a long time, has closed its doors.  I'm not really surprised, as it was not updated in quite a while.  It was a great site, one which provided a valuable service to the Warhammer Online community.  It may not seem like it, but I think this is a very good thing for WAR.

Renown Point Overhaul

In the upcoming 1.4 patch, the Renown Point (RP) system will see some major changes.  Gone is the tiered system and the special renown tactics.  In their place is a more open system and a bunch of new Renown Abilities.

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

1.4 PTS Video #2

On Friday afternoon, Mythic held the second PTS event for the 1.4 patch.  It was very similar to the first test, but there were some changes made.  This time around I played a Zealot, which was a first for me.  Fun experience, throwing your heals is kind of fun.  I did do commentary for this video, hopefully it helps show what it is all about.

Monday, October 11, 2010

Banner Contest

I think it is time that the Arsenal of WAR had its own banner.  Since I lack even the most rudimentary artistic skills, I am going to open this up to the community through a contest.  Read on for more details about the Arsenal of WAR Banner Contest.

News from the Front: PTS!

This has been an exciting week for Warhammer Online. Parts of the 1.4 patch (RvR Pack) were brought up on the Public Test Server.  This includes the new Open RvR system, mounts and other improvements.  Be sure to hop on and look around.

Thursday, October 7, 2010

1.4 PTS Event Video

Last night, the first PTS event was held for the upcoming 1.4 patch.  Over 400 players took to battlefield to test out the new Open RvR system.  It is a small RvR lake when compare to Tier 4, yet performance was very good for me.  I took a about 150 gig worth of video, here is some of it.

Video #2 is up.

Heavy Mounts

Mythic likes mounts, it's true.  In the upcoming 1.4 patch we will see the introduction of Heavy Mounts to Warhammer Online.  I'm not talking about Sparkling Ponies either.  These look like they will be available to all who can afford the in-game cost.

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Using Mobile Siege Weapons

One of the more interesting aspects of the revamped RvR system coming in 1.4 is that siege engines can now be placed anywhere in the RvR lake.  In preparation I hopped on the PTS to figure out how they work.  Read on for the details.

More Skaven Bosses Revealed

We recently found out that the new Skaven zone is actually a RvR dungeon.  What would a dungeon be if there were not bosses to fight?  In an interview, Carrie mentioned that one of the bosses is Throt the Unclean.  I did a little digging and found out some more details, including who some of the other bosses are.

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

Potions and Talismans

The Arsenal of WAR now includes Potions and Talismans.  As you can see, there are actually a ton of them, including Land of the Dead Souls.  I'm still missing quite a few of them since some are Bind on Pickup.  Looks like I am going to have to get going on the Add-On so I can take community contributions.  Enjoy!

WAR, The Final Frontier

Open RvR is one of Warhammer Online's best features.  What I like best about it is its unstructured nature.  Zone locking itself may be structured, but what goes on inside the lake is often not.  Yesterday, I logged in, used the WAR report to get to Praag and was immediately met with this. It was a fun fight, especially the ending shot.

The new Skaven zone

Over the weekend, Carrie (Warhammer Online's Producer) went on the Ten Ton hammer Podcast to talk about the upcoming RvR Pack.  During it, she revealed new details about the new Skaven themed area.  For the details of what was discussed, check out Bootae's post.  All done? Good, what did you think?

News from the Front: October!

It was has been an interesting week for WAR.  Andy traveled to the UK GamesDay event and dropped some new information on Skaven.  Then it was somehow the end of the month already and we got a Producer's Letter.  Was there anything interesting in it? Yes....

WAR is Calling

BioWare Mythic is currently running a special promotion (ends October 11th) called Return of the Legends.  What this means to you is there is free game time for former players to be had in WAR, DAoC and UO.  So, why should you care?  I'll give you some reasons.

A Dwarf and his Rifle

Werit at WAR returns with a new video, starring Tirew the Engineer.   It contains gameplay video and audio commentary.  Those of you who are squeamish may want to look away as several Destro were harmed in the making of the video.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Class Headquarters

I have added a new feature to the Arsenal of WAR called the Class Headquarters.  Basically, instead of going directly to the weapon listing for a class, you will be taken to the Class HQ page first.  From there you can get to the item links and more.  What more you ask?

Monday, September 27, 2010

Skaven Revealed

Yesterday, GamesDay UK was held and Mythic was there.  They were not there just to party either.  Tons of new information about the upcoming RvR Pack was given. The new ORvR system was also discussed (Aerial bombers!). For a complete rundown, head over to WAR Aura.  I was hoping to hear more about Skaven and I was not disappointed.

News from the Front: Happy Anniversary

This week marked the second anniversary of Warhammer Online.  In celebration, Mythic held a double XP/Renown weekend (last weekend), which resulted in a ton of action.  They also unveiled some special items for two year vets.  Two years already, time flies.

A different kind of war

As I mentioned yesterday, Civilization 5 has been going for a domination victory over my free time.  I have really been enjoying it, but that isn't surprise.  Civilization 1 was the first game I bought when I got my own computer (as opposed to a parents). So you could say I am a fan.

Mo' Medallions

I had a different post planned for today but Civ 5 happened.  I was just going to try it out for a few minutes and then get to work on today's WAR related post.  A few minutes in Civ time is actually a few hours.  As a result, today is a news post.

Two Years of WAR

This week Warhammer Online celebrates its second anniversary.  It's hard to believe that two years has gone by already.  When I was younger and in school, two years seemed to take forever.  Now it is gone in the blink of an eye.

Monday, September 20, 2010

Upload your Sceenshots

The Arsenal of WAR now allows for the uploading of sceenshots for nearly every item in the DB.  With the new appearance system, finding the right look can be a challenge.  Hopefully this will make it a little bit easier.  Read on for the details and other Arsenal news.

News from the Front: Neglecting Reach

It has been a pretty uneventful week.  I played on my main for the most part.  Some more work on the Arsenal was done too.  Expect to see user uploaded images next week.  Halo Reach is sitting neglected on my desk for the time being.  Hopefully I can get some time in this weekend on it.  Next week Civ 5 arrives! On to the WAR community.

Dressed to Kill Gallery

It is time to wrap up the Dressed to Kill contest.  Congratulations to all of the winners and I hope you enjoy your prizes.  I'd like to thank everyone who entered the contest, there were a lot of great submissions.  It's nice to see some of the creativity being put into appearances. As promised, here are the rest of the entries!

Engineer and Magus changes

Late last week, we learned about some possible changes coming to the Engineer and Magus careers in Warhammer Online.  Rune Priests and Zealots received some attention in 1.3.6, now it's our turn.  That's not to say other classes won't see changes, but this is all we know so far.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Dressed to Kill Winners

The poll for the Dressed to Kill contest has closed.  We got a nice amount of votes, so thanks to everyone who participated.  All of the entries were good, but only 3 could win.  Did your favorite win? Read on for the results.

Arsenal of WAR goes live

When playing Warhammer Online, it is important to know what tools you have at your disposal.  The Arsenal of WAR is a new item database to help you find the right piece of armor or weapon for your character.  There are other item db's out there, but I wanted the Arsenal to be easy and up to date.  Read on for the details.

Friday, September 10, 2010

News from the Front: I like to move it

Not a lot going on this week compared to the last few.  The biggest news was the good possibility of some kind of mobile siege weaponry in ORvR.  Who wouldn't like to strategically position a big cannon?  The Wild Hunt live event will be wrapping up soon, so get to work!

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Dressed to Kill Reminder

There are only 3 days left to vote for the winners of the Dressed to Kill contest.  There is a tight race for 2nd and 3rd place, so cast a vote!  The poll can be found on the right sidebar.  I will be running this contest again soon, so get your look together.

1.3.6: High Elf Shields

Time to get back to showing some of the excellent new weapon models introduced in the 1.3.6 patch.  A large percentage of the new art went to the High Elves.  Just like any good Dwarf, I like shields.  The High Elf versions are pretty nice, even if they are a bit to fancy for me.  On to the new models!

Arsenal of WAR Update

I have had a little bit more free time than usual, so I spent it on improving the Arsenal of WAR.  I know, it sounds productive.  Don't worry, I will be back to my slacking ways eventually.  There have been quite a few changes to the Arsenal, read on for the details.

Mobile Siege Weapons

With the RvR Q&A thread winding down, Andy dropped a rather big surprise on us.  He didn't go into details, but sometimes a 'yes' is all we need to hear.  The challenge with Q&A's is that the right question needs to be asked.  So, what am I talking about?

Dressed to Kill Judging

It is time to pick the winners of the Dressed to Kill contest.  There were a large number of entries, so I am going to pick 5 of them and have you vote for the winner.  There were so many good entries, it is tough narrowing them down.  On to the voting!

News from the Front: Fear the Chickens

This week, WAR saw a bit of downtime due to ISP troubles and a new Hot-fix.  I didn't have much time to play because of RL happenings and work on the Arsenal of WAR.  I did get to group up with some guildies and take advantage of Against All Odds.  Some great fights were a result.  What has the rest of the WAR community been up to?

Arsenal of WAR Update

Earlier in the week I introduced a new item database called the Arsenal of WAR.  It is nothing too fancy, but gets the job done.  I have found myself using it to figure out what weapons my alts should be using.  Today I  uploaded a new version.

More RvR Pack Q&A

As mentioned a few days ago, Andy started up a Q&A thread for the upcoming RvR Pack.  The thread is still going on and Andy is still answering questions.  I am going to take the easy way out on this post, so prepare for copy and pasting!

A Patch and a Letter

Yesterday during the weekly maintenance a new Patch was introduced.  This just wasn't just a run of the mill bugfix as it had an important change for Zealots and Rune Priests.  The Producer's Letter for August was also posted.  Continue on for more details.

Arsenal of WAR

Succeeding in WAR means knowing how to equip yourself for a fight.  In recent patches, a ton of new weapons have been added to the game.  To help find the right fit, I made a new item database called the Arsenal of WAR.

Last Call

The Dressed to Kill contest ends tomorrow morning!  Be sure to get your screenshots in.  There have been some really nice submissions so far.  I am still working out how to show them all off and get them judged, more info on that later this week.

RvR Pack Q&A

The last couple of weeks have been filled with RvR Pack news from gaming events in Cologne and Baltimore.  While we did get some good information from the attendees, Mythic wanted to take a more direct route with their players.  Andy, community manager, started up a Q&A thread on the forums.

News from the Front: The Return

After a short vacation, the News from the Front has returned!  You guys may have missed it, but Mythic announced the RvR Pack.  Next time I'll try to cover it more.  The 1.3.6 patch has been overshadowed by the Pack news, but has been a lot of fun.  It just might be the best Warhammer Online patch yet.  On to the community news.

Even More WAR News

I'm starting to run out of titles for these posts.  Yesterday saw some interesting news for Warhammer's RvR Pack.  Nothing too exact, but it definitely gives us an idea of what to expect, especially when it comes to Skaven.  Read on for the details.

Warhammer Emotes

One of the lesser known features of Warhammer's 1.3.6 patch is the addition of several new emotes.  They don't have animations but are fun none the less.  I put together a list all of the emotes in Warhammer Online, including the new ones.  You can find it after the break.

More WAR News

A new interview is up from Gamescom.  This one comes to us from WAR-Welten and is a 30 minute video.  It is in English, so be sure to watch it.  It's a great way to slack err... spend your lunch hour.  I did pick out some of the interesting bits, read them after the jump.

Dressed to Kill Contest

Now that we are not at the mercy of our loot, we can start looking somewhat decent.  The appearance system, introduced in 1.3.6, allows for lot more customization.  To celebrate, it is time for a contest!  Yep, win stuff just for looking good.  Read on for the details.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

Did you think the Warhammer Online news was over?  Not quite yet.  We'll be getting more news as attendees get their articles up.  I'm not expecting any great revelations, but the picture of the RvR Pack should become a bit more clear.

Reaction

With Gamescom and Gamesday Baltimore complete, it's now time to reflect on what we've heard.  The reaction from the community has been mixed, which is not surprising.  I'm actually torn about the announcement of the RvR Pack.

WAR News Day 5

I wasn't expecting to do another news post after yesterday's, but some new information has become available.  It isn't anything groundbreaking, but worth a read none the less.  Even though I was disappointed yesterday, my overall outlook is positive.  More on that tomorrow though.

WAR News Day 4

Gamescom is wrapping up and Gamesday Baltimore has begun!  Over the past few days we have found out quite a bit about WAR's upcoming RvR Pack.  Today, several bloggers and players will attempt to answer even more of the questions raised by the community.

WAR News Day 3

No News from the Front this week, instead more coverage of Mythic's visit to Gamescom.  Yesterday we learned two things.  First, the RvR pack will be split into 3 parts (Power, Progression and Personality) which can be separately purchased. Secondly, there will be a new RvR zone.  What will today's news bring us?

WAR News Day 2

Yesterday was Press Day at the Gamescom conference.  Today it officially opens to the public.  A little bit of WAR news did leak out, which has been getting a mixed reaction.  The problem is, what we got was more of a blurb rather than an actual interview.  Will Day 2 be better?

NOTE: Day 3 is up.

WAR News from Gamescom

The first bit of WAR info has made its way out of Gamescom!  Hopefully this is just the tip of the iceberg.  I will update this page with new info throughout the day.  So, what does Mythic have planned for us?

NOTE: Day 2 can be found here.

1.3.6: High Elf Axes

Even though 1.3.6 has launched, there are still a bunch of new weapon models to show off.  I'm not the biggest Elf fan, but these Axes do look pretty cool. Not as cool as last weeks rifles though.  Today we should also get word on WAR's big news!  Rest assured there will be a post about it when I know something.  On to the weapons!

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Patch Day!

Today, Warhammer Online's 1.3.6 patch comes to the live servers.  I am pretty excited about this one.  The first thing I plan on doing is hopping on my Tier 3 Slayer and making my way to the High Pass RvR lake.  I expect some good action with players checking out the new Skaven spawns.  While we wait, here is plenty of stuff to keep you busy.

NOTE: Servers are up!

Monday, August 16, 2010

Your guess

For the first time over the 2+ years of this blog, I will try a poll.  Easy question, what do you think Mythic will announce at Gamescom this week?  The poll (to the right) has some of the common rumors, choose as many as you want.  Things like DAoC 2 would go under Cheetos.  If I missed a good option, post it in a comment.

1.3.6 Features Part 2

In part 1, we took a look at the new Auction House changes and other nice features which may be overlooked in the behemoth that is 1.3.6.  This time, we will take a peek at some of the bigger changes coming our way, which we will most likely see tomorrow on live!

News from the Front: The Final Countdown

It has been a quiet week for Warhammer Online, but that is all about to change.  Friendly collision detection was the hot topic and the outcome is still uncertain.  It looks like we won't have to wait long to find out though.  Mythic will be hitting up Gamescom next week and it looks like 1.3.6 will be hitting the live servers too!

UPDATE: Looks like friendly collision will remain for 1.3.6!

Thursday, August 12, 2010

To collide, or not to collide

As you probably know, the big WAR topic this week is whether or not friendly collision should be removed in the 1.3.6 patch.  Enemy collision detection would remain even if its counterpart is disabled.  There is a rather long thread about it on the official forums.  What do I think?

UPDATE: Looks like friendly collision will remain for 1.3.6!

1.3.6: PTS Event #2

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, last weeks PTS event had a special focus on testing with friendly collision disabled.  In this video, we will take a look at some open field RvR and close quarters combat at Chillwind in Eatine. It turned out to be a rather surprising fight.

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

1.3.6: Rifles

One of the best parts about playing an Engineer is that you get to carry around a rifle.  In WAR's 1.3.6 patch a bunch of new rifle models were added to the game.  The new rifle models span all of the tiers.  With the appearance system, you should be able to use some of these to make your Engineer look even better.

Monday, August 9, 2010

1.3.6: Mass RvR

Large scale conflicts are one of Warhammer Online's best features.  This has not always been the case since poor performance limited the viability of these battles.  The game has come a long way over the last year and performance is better than ever.  For 1.3.6, Mythic is looking to improve these massive clashes even more.

NOTE: Part 2 is up.  It shows more of the collision tests which were done.

Friday, August 6, 2010

News from the Front: Calm before the storm

This week has been pretty quiet as far as WAR news goes.  With Gamescom rapidly approaching, I suspect Mythic is busy preparing for it and the 1.3.6 patch.  The community remains active, especially with anticipation of the 'announcement.'

Thursday, August 5, 2010

1.3.6 Features

I thought today I'd do something a little different and write about Warhammer Online's upcoming 1.3.6 patch.  I know, totally unpredictable.  Patches are usually categorized by their biggest feature.  1.3.6 will probably be known as the Sovereign patch, but there is a lot more to it.

NOTE: Part 2 is up.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

1.3.6: PTS Event #1

On Friday, BioWare Mythic held the first of two events on the Public Test Server for Warhammer Online's 1.3.6 patch.  The goal of this one was to get a lot of players together and gauge the performance.  As advertised, there was a twist to this test, which could have a big affect on WAR.  Find out more, and watch a video, after the break.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

1.3.6: Black Orc Shields

If I had to play a Destruction race, it would be the Greenskins.  They just have so much cool stuff.  In 1.3.6, Black Orc's received several new models for their scenario shields.  As we have seen with others, there is also a new shield model which doesn't appear to be used in the game yet.  What could it be for?

Monday, August 2, 2010

The Eternal Citadel

Ever since the introduction of the 6 versus 6 scenario, The Ironclad, many players have asking for another one.  In a recent interview, Carrie announced that they are working on one called The Eternal Citadel.  Thursday night, a test of this new scenario was held on the PTS.  Continue on for a video of The Eternal Citadel and a contest!

News from the Front: I smell a rat!

Well, it has been quite a week.  There has been a ton of interesting WAR news and we have not even gotten to the Producer's Letter yet.  I have also spent some time playing Starcraft 2, which is top notch.  Let's get down to business, on to the WAR roundup.

Thursday, July 29, 2010

Four things I learned

From a Buffed.de interview about WAR...

1. There will be a new 6 vs 6 scenario and it is called The Eternal Citadel.

2. We will probably never see the other cities, as there is no reason to at this time.

3. We are in for a surprise at Gamscom, which is bigger than a content patch.  There have been hints as to what it may be about.

4. Free2Play is not a model that they are interested in pursuing at this time.

Engineer in 1.3.6

My favorite class, the Engineer, will be seeing a few changes in Warhammer Online's 1.3.6 patch.  I wouldn't consider it a major overhaul, but it will change some aspects of the career.  As with any change, some players are happy about it and some are not.  What does 1.3.6 have in store for us?

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

August is for WAR

The month of August is shaping up to be a crazy (and hopefully awesome) month for Warhammer Online.  Not only is the 1.3.6 patch likely going live but something else is lurking in the shadows.  I dare not utter its name for fear of angering the gods.  The darkness hides its form, but something is there.

1.3.6: Dwarf Weapons

Chosen are not the only ones getting new weapon models in WAR's 1.3.6 patch.  Dwarfs will see quite a few new models as well.  There are too many for one post, so this is part one.  Here we have some new Rune Priest staves and a special mystery weapon!

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Movin' on up

During all of the commotion last week with the release of Warhammer Online's 1.3.6 patch notes, another important announcement was made.  WAR's forums will soon shut down and then reopen under the BioWare Social Network.  What does this mean for WAR?

Monday, July 26, 2010

1.3.6: Chosen Weapons

Last week, the notes for Warhammer Online's 1.3.6 patch were posted.  One of the many changes coming to WAR are the addition of new weapon models, which started in 1.3.4 with the introduction of scenario weapons.  Chosen 2-handers were the recipients of some new models, which you can check out after the break.

News from the Front: 1.3.6 Ho!

As the title suggests, Warhammer Online's 1.3.6 patch is right around the corner.  Yesterday, the patch notes were posted and the response has been pretty positive.  As for me this week, I've been in a tank kind of mood, so my Ironbreaker has seen more playing time.  What is everyone else up to?

RvR Changes on the Horizon

Mythic has announced some very interesting RvR changes coming in 1.3.6. The changes are aimed at bringing more life and action to Tiers 2 and 3, which are often neglected.  Tiers 1 and 4 are full of RvR fun, so how is Mythic going to do the same for the middle tiers?

I answered the call

When I'm not getting smacked around by Destruction in Warhammer Online, I like to get some time in on my 360.  As a part of my Summer game cleanup, I decided to play the copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which has been sitting on the shelf for many months.  That's right, here at Werit's Blog we only post the most timely and relevant pieces.

When in Roam...

In this edition of Werit at WAR, Tirew (Engineer) goes hunting alone in the RvR lakes.  Like last weeks video, I did some audio commentary.  This video isn't like most others since I lose or die in most of the clips.  It does give me a chance to do some analysis and hopefully improve in the future.  If seeing my character face down in the dirt appeals to you, continue on!

Your WAR Story Contest

With Warhammer Online's 1.3.6 patch drawing near, I figured it was time for another contest.  This time I will be giving away several prizes, including an unopened WAR Collector's Edition.  For a chance at winning, all you have to do is write about one of your favorite moments playing the game.  Read on for the details!

News from the Front 7/16

One thing I like about Warhammer Online is the different play-styles that it supports.  For instance, this week I have been in a solo roaming mood while last week I felt more like doing scenarios.  Either way, I get to do some PvP.  It has been a busy week for WAR news, so let's get started.

Silent but deadly

No, not that kind of SBD.  The latest State of the Game is out for Fallen Earth and it is quite large.  I am a bit behind in my Fallen Earth posts, I blame Mythic and the Xbox 360 for my negligence.  The letter is too large for a single post to hold, so consider this a preview.

Aftermath

A couple of weeks ago, Steam was having a sale to end all sales.  In addition to a huge amount of discounted games, they had a number of special sales every day.  I'm pretty sure I was not alone in anticipating each days sale.  The instant gratification factor did not help things either.  The question is not whether I bought something, it is how much money did Steam leave me?

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Up close and personal

Yesterday, Mythic announced more class balance changes which they are considering for the 1.3.6 patch.  The proposed changes mostly affect damage tactics which are based on range.  What will this mean for combat in Warhammer Online?

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Taking it to the streets

Over the weekend I had a hankering for some open RvR.  The WAR Report showed activity in Praag, so off I went.  It had been a few weeks since I last did a video so I made sure to have fraps running.  I am trying something new with this episode of Werit at WAR by adding some audio commentary. Check it out after the break.

What a tool he was

Joker that is.  This is probably my favorite quote from Mass Effect 2.  Raman being an Earth delicacy is a close second.  Since I finally finished up all the the content I had planned in ME2, I figured now is a good time to reflect on it.  Timely, I know.

News from the Front 7/9

It has been a rather busy week for WAR.  The importing of the EU servers looks like it is nearly complete.  I like the idea of having everyone under the Mythic umbrella rather than different publishers.  Some of the plans for the new Sovereign armor sets were also made public to a mixed reception.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

You can't please everyone

The end game armor sets in WAR ( Sovereign ) have never been very popular.  In the upcoming 1.3.6 patch, Mythic hopes to change that.  Yesterday, they posted a draft of what they had in mind for the new tank armor sets.  Go ahead and take a look, I'll wait...

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

I'll take those odds

One of the most anticipated features in 1.3.6 is the Against all Odds system.  Basically, it scales rewards (Experience, Renown and Influence) based on how outnumbered you are in a RvR lake.  This applies to player kills and taking objectives and keeps.  What effect will this have on WAR's open RvR?

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Should the Endless Trial end?

WAR takes a different approach when it comes to a trial. Instead of limiting it by days, you can play as long as you want in the first tier.  There are some other restrictions, but it has proven popular.  Today we have a guest post by Grilar.  He is not so sure that the Endless Trial is good for the game.

Memories

Civilization 5 is set for release this September!  Since it is coming out relatively soon, I have started to read up on it.  Civ is one of my favorite game series and I have owned every edition since it started.  I can't help but think back on it.

Friday, July 2, 2010

News from the Front 7/2

It has been a big week for WAR.  We got a Producer's Letter and several new 1.3.6 discussion threads on the forums.  It is shaping up to be another excellent patch.  Also happening this week is the takeover of WAR EU by Bioware Mythic from GOA.  Here we go...

Thursday, July 1, 2010

Against all Odds Video

As I mentioned in the last post, I am very excited about the new Against all odds system coming to WAR.  I think it will add a new dimension to RvR.  I'm not one to be patient, so I broke out my contacts, bribed some and blackmailed others.  All to bring you a sneak peak of Against all Odds.  A bit less action than I expected...

June's Producer Letter

Yesterday, Bioware Mythic (yep, that's their new name) released the Producer Letter for June.  I'm not sure where June went as it feels like we just got May's letter.  This month, Carrie goes over some of what we can expect in the upcoming 1.3.6 patch.

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Mass Effect 2 DLC

As I mentioned in Monday's post, I really wanted to finish up Mass Effect 2's latest DLC content.  There were two available, Kasumi - Stolen Memory and Overlord.  Each cost 560 Xbox Live points which is around $7.50.  Continue on for some impressions.

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Hurrik

Not too long ago, I got my second character to the level cap (40) in WAR.  It was a first for me in any MMO.  Now we have another first, my third character reached level 40.  This time it was my Rune Priest, Hurrik.  That's three Dwarf's, only one more for the set!

Summer of Werit

Summer is in full swing here.  That means things have slowed down a bit for many companies.  People go on vacation, conferences and just slack off in general.  I'm probably guilty of it but who can blame me when it is so nice outside?  That is why we have vacation hours.  The summer has also crossed over to my video game playing.

News from the Front 6/25

This week was pretty important for me as far as WAR goes.  Tirew, my Engineer, hit Renown Rank 66.  That means I can now wear 3 pieces of Warlord armor.  It takes 3 to get the +Ballistics bonus.  It also means I will have to redo my gear and talismans, should be fun!  What is everyone else up to?

Thursday, June 24, 2010

WAR in Europe III

That's right, we are still not done with the WAR Europe blogs and fansites.  It is looking like I will beat out Jaws for the number of sequels.  I think these posts and the News from the Front show that the WAR community is rather large and still growing.  Stop by some of these sites if you get a chance.

Why you should be playing Fallen Earth and not WoW

Today I am doing something a little different, a guest post!  Youngblood, of 16bit Radio, wants to talk a bit about why you should play Fallen Earth and not WoW.  Can't say I disagree with him, these are some great reasons to try out Fallen Earth.  Enjoy!

Monday, June 21, 2010

New Vanity Pets for WAR?

There is an interesting post on the WAR Europe forums.  It seems an article about Warhammer Online in White Dwarf Magazine (Games Workshop) mentions the addition of new pets and familiars to the game.  Considering the source, it seems like it could be more than just a rumor.  So, how plausible is this rumor?

Mythic minus one

As many of you may have heard, last week Josh Drescher was let go from Mythic.  This was rather surprising news since Josh has been with Mythic and WAR for quite a long time.  What does this mean for WAR going forward?

Friday, June 18, 2010

News from the Front 6/18

So, what's been going on this week?  We got some interesting news about career changes in 1.3.6.  it was also the week of E3.  While there was nothing specific to WAR, there are a ton of good games coming out on all platforms this year.  To the front!

Thursday, June 17, 2010

It takes skills

One thing I have always neglected in Fallen Earth has been my skills.  Since I have been concentrating on crafting, I only needed the most basic of combat training.  In order to actually progress, I figured it was time to complete some quests and get on with the story.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

I love lockout timers!

Really, I do.  Lockout timers are often hated on by many MMO players.  They often serve as a roadblock to pace a players progression.  Whether that is good or not, I'll leave to the MMO philosophers.  When it comes to WAR's city siege lockout timers, they are awesome.

Champion

Not long ago, a nightmare for Destruction came true.  Sigmar, in his infinite wisdom, chose Tirew (my Engineer) to be his champion.  Alright, maybe it wasn't wisdom so much as there was no one better around.  Witness the mayhem of a giant armed Dwarf!

Monday, June 14, 2010

WAR in Europe II

This is the second part of the WAR in Europe series where we will take a look at some of the fine blogs and fansites across the sea.  These were all given to me during the WAR Blog and fansite contest which was held a couple of weeks ago.  Drop by and say hi!

Friday, June 11, 2010

News from the Front 6/11

It has been a relatively quiet week for WAR.  Mythic is focusing on the 1.3.6 patch and players are busy razing some cities. I spent time on a few of my alts this week doing some world RvR and scenarios.  On to the community news!

Get Fallen Earth for free!

Time is running out to get Fallen Earth for free! I only have a few keys left, better get one while you can.  Check out the original post for details.  The 1.5 patch has gone live, so it is a great time to jump in.

What happens in the Wasteland...

When you're fighting for survival against mutants, giant bugs and your fellow man, it is nice to have a place where you can relax, drink a few "beverages" and lose some of your hard earned chips.  Taverns/Bars are a relatively recent addition to Fallen Earth, so I figured it was time I checked them out.

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Appearance

One of the bigger features coming to WAR in 1.3.6 is an appearance system.  The gist of the system is that it would allow a player to wear a set of armor for the stats, but show other armor pieces.  Games like Lord of the Rings Online and Everquest 2 have had similar systems for a while.  Will this work in WAR?

Fallen Earth Giveaway

I have been a fan of Fallen Earth for quite a while, so I am very happy to be able to hold a contest for them.  Over the next week, you can win a free game key which includes 30 days of play time.  If you have been curious about Fallen Earth, this is a great chance to get the game and try it out for a month at no cost.  Read on for the details.

WAR in Europe

In last weeks contest, I asked players to submit a EU Warhammer Online blog or fansite for a chance at winning a new mount.  The response was very good and I have quite a few links to share.  There are far too many to put in a single post, so I'll have to break it up a bit.  Continue on for the first WAR in Europe.

News from the Front 6/4

The big news this week was the release of the May Producer's Letter.  It gave us a peek at what is in store for us in the 1.3.6.  I think the armor appearance system has a lot of potential and am looking forward to trying it out.  The community was busy as always...

One Night in Chaos Wastes

Last night I played a little bit on my Ironbreaker.  I only had a short time and saw there was a bunch of activity in Chaos Wastes.  Order was attempting to siege the city and Destruction was not being cooperative.  Who said the campaign would be dead?

Spring Cleaning

In a post last week, I wrote about my efforts to bring my Fallen Earth character back in line with my goals.  Since that is done, the next step is to do a bit of spring cleaning.  It is very easy to become a pack rat in FE.  Eventually it just became too much, so I had to make a change.

May Producer's Letter

Yesterday, Jun... er May 32nd according to the Mythic calender, the latest Producer's Letter was released.  Not only did it contain some interesting information about 1.3.6, but it also included a plea for help from some WAR bloggers. Help me readers, you're my only hope...

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Best Part of 1.3.5

In last weeks contest, participants answered with what they thought was the best part of WAR's 1.3.5 patch.  As you might have guessed, many of the responses include mention of the new city siege system.  It's hard to argue with that, as they can be quite fun.  Read on for what a few of the entrants had to say.

Contest: WAR Blogs and Fansites

The billing snafu a while back ago gave a number of players the chance to own special WAR mounts.  As it only affected the NA/Mythic version, EU/GOA players were not able to obtain them.  In this weeks contest, EU players will have their chance.  Read on for the details.

NOTE: This contest has ended, check back soon for another!

NOTE: The winners have been notified, thanks for entering!

News from the Front 5/28

It's the last few days of May, which means a new Producer's Letter should be out anytime now.  I'm looking forward to it but it will be tough for Mythic to top 1.3.5.  Speaking of the new patch, it seems most people are still having a blast.  Continue on for this weeks News from the Front.

Contest Reminder

Just a quick reminder, this weeks WAR contest will be ending tomorrow morning ( 5/27/2010 ) at 8am EDT.  I'll send the winner a notification soon after.  To enter, all you have to do is send me what you like about WAR's 1/3/5 patch.  Check out the full details!

Choices

One thing I love about MMO's is the amount of choices they tend to offer.  Race, class, skill trees and gear are just a few choices which are usually offered.  WAR is no exception but puts a PvP spin on theirs.  In the next few weeks, I have some important choices to make involving my Engineer.

Clone Respeccing

For the past few weeks I have been playing a bit more of Fallen Earth.  I've actually played the game since launch and have never really quit.  One of the things I like about FE is that compared to most modern MMO's it is quite complex due to the skill system.  As a result, I was very happy when they announced a one time respec

Special Dyes

A new hot fix hit the live servers today.  There are a bunch of nice fixes, like career trainers in the new city instances, and there was one special announcement.  For a short time, two new dye colors will be available for purchase.

Deadly Embrace

Khaines Embrace made a triumphant return to WAR a couple weekends ago during the Weekend Warfront. I have to admit, I was not a big fan of this scenario in Tier 1.  However, in Tier 4 I actually had a really good time playing it again.  I took some video of my Engineer, Ironbreaker and Rune Priest playing this scenario, which is after the break.

That's right

I like the new mount.  You might too if you had been using a gyro-copter for almost 2 years.  My mount capable alts are all Dwarfs, so this is the first time I have really ridden a horse.  Sure it would be more appropriate for our Elven "friends", but I am secure in my Dwarfhood and still I carry a big gun.

Contest: Best Part of 1.3.5

Now that 1.3.5 has arrived, I think it is time for another contest.  I'm pretty excited about this one since the prizes are open to both NA and EU markets!  I'm going to try something new for this contest, so continue on for all of the details.

NOTE: The contest has ended.  Check back soon for the next one!

News from the Front 5/21

It's been a pretty quiet week for WAR.  Just kidding, it has been crazy with the release of 1.3.5.  As you might expect, the community chatter has been mostly about the new patch.  I know a good chunk of my posts have been lately.  As usual, there is a lot to read and watch if you want to make your Friday go faster.  New section this week, Addons!

The Day After

Yesterday was a big day for WAR, 1.3.5 hit the live servers.  Patch days rarely go smoothly and this one was no different.  There were a few bugs and some unexpected downtime.  The downtime and real life conspired against me so I was only able to play for a little bit.  How did it go?

1.3.5 Wrapup

Patch day is here!  Today Mythic will bring the much anticipated 1.3.5 patch to the live servers.  I am pretty excited about this patch, as it adds a lot of great things to WAR. What sort of things does 1.3.5 bring to the table?  I'm glad you asked!

Mythic sneaks in a new mount!

Much to my surprise, Mythic has added a new mount to WAR!  It should be live tomorrow with the launch of the 1.3.5 patch.  The new mount is from the Land of the Dead and has an interesting twist.  Continue on for the details and some screenshots.

The Final Battle

I was hoping to post something about 1.3.5 launching today but it seems it was not to be.  Instead, I have a video from the final PTS event which was held on Sunday night.  This time, the video focuses on the final battle between the Kings.

New Crest Rewards

One of the known additions coming in 1.3.5 are new time limited talismans which can be purchased with RvR medallions.  They only went up to the Officer level medallions, leaving some to wonder if we will get new items to purchase with crests.  On the PTS, we have been answered!

News from the Front 5/14

This week saw two public play tests of the new city siege system. For the most part, players seem to have had a lot of fun with the new system.  After 6 tests, I am ready to play this on live!  When will that be?  Only Mythic knows, but I am hoping for next week.  On to the community news.

PTS Event Tonight!

Tonight is the last scheduled testing event for the 1.3.5 patch on the PTS.  Tuesday's was a lot of fun, so stop in if you can.  This time, the Inevitable City will be invaded.  The test starts around 8pm EDT.  You may want to copy over a live character as well (it's quick).  See you there!

NOTE: Big balance change for tonight's test!

1.3.5 Features Part 3

It seems that two posts is not enough to contain the features of WAR's 1.3.5 patch.  This post covers a few more miscellaneous changes and additions.  I'm not a big fan of one of them, let's see if you can guess which!  Hopefully we will see 1.3.5 live in the next week or two.

Upgrades

Over the weekend I put together a quick run of Tomb of the Vulture Lord with my guild.  Just like last time, the goal was to down the first two bosses or spend an hour trying.  Some groups can clear quite a bit of ToVL in an hour however I like to keep the run nice and accessible.  By the end of the night I had some nice upgrades for my Engineer.

Contest: Who am I?

During our trip to their HQ, Mythic was kind enough to provide us with some items to give away.  I had planned to do this a couple of weeks ago, but there was too much awesome stuff going on with 1.3.5. This contest will involve a bit of trivia.  Also, you will have your choice of prizes.  Read on for the details.

NOTE: Contest has ended, mail has been sent to the winner!  I plan on holding another one in a week or two.

Hoplon

A couple of weeks ago, I did something that I have never done before in any MMO.  I got a second character to the level cap. In all other games, I have only managed to get one guy to the max level .  In WAR, I now have 2 (40, not RR max).  Introducing Hoplon, the Ironbreaker.

News from the Front 5/7

Last night was the final closed PTS event to test the new city siege.  Overall, it is solid and has improved quite a bit over the last four tests.  There is still some work to do though. Next week, I will post about my overall impressions of the city siege experience.  Public testing should be right around the corner!

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Battle of Altdorf

The third PTS test event was held on Tuesday night.  This time we grouped up in six man parties to tests the new city siege system.  The Altdorf siege was the site of an epic battle during the first Stage.  Continue on for a video and an explanation of the fight.

Sanctioned Cross-Realming

Last week, Mythic sent out the Producer's Letter for April.  It was mostly about what they have been up to this month.  At the end, they did reveal an interesting plan:  They want to allow players to have Order and Destruction characters on the same server.

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Reminder

Tonight is the 3rd city siege event on the PTS!  Mykiel will be running a live stream of the event, so be sure to tune in and watch the action around 8pm EST.  We'll also be chatting about it in the stream's chat room.  Each event has been better than the last, so I am looking forward to tonight's.

1.3.5 City Siege

Over the weekend, I put together a video of last Thursday's city siege event on the PTS.  The event itself was considerably better than the first one and actually a lot of fun.  I am already looking forward to the test this Tuesday!  Continue on for the video.

ToVL High Quality

A weekend post?  Yep!  I'm trying out something new.  Last week I posted a video trailer of 1.3.5 Tomb of the Vulture Lord testing.  It was pretty decent, but I'm not really happy with the quality.  I'm trying out a new service, which should be much better.  Continue on for the high-quality version!

News from the Front 4/30

Wow, April is just about over.  This week saw the start of the new city siege system being tested.  Test #2 was held last night and was much improved compared to the first test.  I am putting together a video for next week.  Until then, on to the WAR community!

1.3.5 Features Part 2

In Part 1 we covered some of WAR's new features for the mini-map, looting and combat.  This time we will take a look at some city changes and the new options for your guild.  There are also a few pictures from the first City Siege test at the end.

Pink for Tink

One common misconception about PvP focused games is that the players are just a bunch sociopath teenagers living in their parents basement.  Sometimes an event comes along that reminds me how untrue that stereotype can be.  It's a shame it had to be a sad occurrence.

Vulture Lord Video

Last week, I participated in test of the Vulture Lord dungeon for the upcoming 1.3.5 patch.  The focus of the changes was on the purge mechanic and the 7th boss fight.  I took some video as we tested both, trailer style.  Continue on for the video.

NOTE: Added some notes about last nights city siege testing.

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Watch the city siege testing as it happens

Mykiel, the video blogger, will be streaming tonight's city siege tests live via ustream.  If you were not selected to participate, this is the next best thing!  The show will start around 8pm est at this link.  Head on over to Mykiel's site for more details.  I should be around too, just look for a Dwarf Engineer who spends most of his time dead.

1.3.5 Features

The new city siege system may be the biggest feature of the 1.3.5 patch, but it is just one of many interesting additions to Warhammer Online.  In this post, I will go over some of the other items that may have been overshadowed in the patch notes.  Read on for Part 1 of 1.3.5's features.

Part 2 is up.

Gratuitous Discount

Over the weekend, the fine folks over as Positech sent me a little gift.  As an owner of Gratuitous Space Battles, I got a coupon code that gives half off of the game.  Since I don't need it, I'd like to give it away to one of you.  Read on for the details.

NOTE: Winner has been selected.

Engineer in 1.3.5

In Warhammer Online's upcoming 1.3.5 patch the Engineer class will see a few changes. In recent history, many of the changes have not been positive for the class.  That is not the case this time, the changes are actually pretty good!  Let's take a look at the specifics and how it will actually affect the career.

News from the Front 4/23

It's been a fun week as far as WAR goes.  Mythic unleashed the 1.3.5 patch notes upon an unsuspecting world.  While no patch is perfect, it is shaping up to be my favorite one yet.  Hopefully it will makes its way on to the live servers within a few weeks.  The WAR community seems to be pretty happy about it too.

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Whoa! 1.3.5 Patch Notes

That's a Joey Lawrence whoa, not a Matrix.  Last night, Mythic unveiled the patch notes for 1.3.5.  We already knew what to expect, or that's what we thought.  What we got was a mountain of improvements.  I am very excited about this patch!

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Speed Kills

In most combat, speed plays a very important part in the outcome.  If you can't catch or hit an enemy, it will be very difficult to defeat them.  This is especially true in PvP MMO's.  Warhammer Online provides a number of ways to alter your speed.  1.3.5 will have some interesting changes regarding speed.

Returning to WAR: World RvR

In last weeks Returning to WAR we looked at some of the changes combat has seen.  This week it is time to take a look at World (open) RvR.  It has undergone quite a few changes since launch.  With the new city siege system in 1.3.5, I expect to see a ton of world RvR.  Read on for what you need to know.

Mythic Trip: Conclusion... or is it?

Like all good things, our trip to Mythic had to come to an end.  We were lucky enough to speak with a number of Mythic developers, all of whom I'd like to thank for their time.  It was also great to meet my fellow bloggers, even if there was some singing involved.  There is one bit of news and a mystery that I have not mentioned yet...

News from the Front 4/16

After taking a little vacation last week, the News from the Front has returned!  It has been a great two weeks.  A few of us bloggers visited to Mythic HQ and had a wonderful time.  This week, Mythic released the details on the new city siege system and it has been met with mostly positive responses.  Continue on for a look at what the WAR community has been up to!

Mythic Trip: Interview with the Producer

The final person I got to interview for before departing Mythic was the Producer, Carrie Gouskos.  She was able to sit down with us for a while and was more than happy to answer our questions.  Continue on for a few of mine.  Thanks Carrie!

Mythic Trip: More City Details

The new city siege is probably the feature most people are excited about in 1.3.5.  Yesterday, Mythic posted the details on how the city siege will work.  It's a great read and the player response has been mostly positive.  I posted some of the Q and A about the city last week.  Now it is time to go into a bit more detail on what we can expect.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Returning to WAR: Combat

Last week, we took a look at how progression has improved in WAR. Combat is another area where WAR has made significant improvements since launch. Before you go marching off into battle, there are some things you need to know.  Continue on for a look at recent CC and AoE changes.

Mythic Trip: Combat and Careers

In part one we spoke to the content development team.  Next up we met with the combat, career and itemization developers.  We had a lot of questions for these guys and they were happy to answer.  Continue on for the questions from folks who twittered me and the answers.

About part 2....

I had planned on posting part 2 of the q and a, but the day was just too busy (and fun).  The trip is over and I had a great time.  Part 2, which mostly covers combat and careers, will be out Monday.  Until then, check these out:

I'll do a proper recap post next week too.

Mythic Day 1

I actually arrived on time, the traffic gods must have been smiling on me.  We picked up some fellow bloggers at the airport and grabbed some lunch.  Back at the Mythic HQ, our first meeting was with some of their content developers.

Gone to Mythic

Gaarawarr, Shadow WAR, Mykiel and myself are off to Mythic today.  We will be sitting down with  the WAR developers for some question and answer time.  You are invited to tweet us some questions you want asked, check out the full details here.

Basically, follow @WARHerald and around 2pm est (today) there should be a tweet telling you to start sending your questions to any one of the bloggers.  That's it, should be easy and fun.  Later on, we will post the answers on our sites :)

1.3.5 Preview

You may have read that myself and three other bloggers were invited down to the Mythic HQ tomorrow.  The emphasis of the trip is on the upcoming 1.3.5 patch, which you will be able to ask questions about through us (more on that tomorrow).  I figured it would be a good idea to go over what we can expect with the patch.

Returning to WAR: Progression

In a previous article I discussed the current state of careers in Warhammer Online.  Next up are some tips and tricks to leveling your character in today's WAR.  Since launch, Mythic has added a few new ways which make leveling by PvE or RvR even quicker.

Phoenix Gate

Over the weekend, we had Phoenix Gate as our weekend warfront scenario. The ruleset of this capture the flag game was altered a bit.  Normally, any player kill would score points for your team.  This time around, Mythic made it so only capturing the flag will give points.  How well did this new ruleset work out?

Distant Worlds Impressions

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I was looking forward to the release of Distant Worlds.  Well, it did launch and I have been playing it a bit since.  It is unlike most other games and even its 4x cousins.  Continue on for my impressions.

News from the Front 4/2

With Spring's arrival, I felt it was time to do some cleanup up of my inventory.  One goal of mine is to have my alts setup with the boots and gloves for all of the tier 4 armor sets.  So I spent a nice chunk of time mailing them around.  It may take a long time for them to get any use but at least they are there.  On to this weeks community activity report (April Fools free)!

Mounts of WAR: Empire

Last week we took a look at the Greenskins and their boar mounts.  Next up is the Empire with their traditional horses.  There is a pretty good variety and the high ranking mounts are decked out in armor.  You can pick up the low ranking mounts up at your capitals mount vendor or the advanced mounts from the quartermaster in the guild hall.

A whole lot of WAR news

I actually had another post planned for today but those troublemakers at Mythic had to go and be all communicative.  There was just too much going on yesterday for me to push it off until my News from the Front post.  I also managed to take a peek at Order's newest weapon.

Returning to WAR: Careers

With a lot of players returning to Warhammer Online, I often see questions about how class X is doing or should they re-roll class Y.  It's a fair question to ask, so in this series I will go over some of the important changes WAR has seen.

Monday, March 29, 2010

Warhammer Online is free

Not long ago, Mythic introduced the Endless Trial and a streaming client, allowing players to quickly get into WAR and check out Tier 1.  Now Mythic has taken it one step further by allowing trial players to subscribe and continue to use the trial client.

This means there is no need to buy a boxed version as the client is free. Of course, a subscription is still required.  Trial players just have to register in the account center and their trial client will update to a full one. Boxed versions do still provide 30 days of free game time and give you a hard copy of the software.

Take the Initiative

As readers of this site may know, I am not the biggest fan when it comes to PvE.  I don't mind it once in a while, but eventually I just get bored.  Over the weekend, I actually had some fun doing some PvE.  The difference was that I did it my way.

Friday, March 26, 2010

News from the Front 3/26

Another Friday is upon us. Last weekends Black Fire Basin scenario was a lot of fun.  I managed to complete the tasks and got some extra emblems as a result.  Also, I'm closing in on my Conqueror weapon for my Engineer, which will be an upgrade.  What is everyone else up to?

Thursday, March 25, 2010

Mounts of WAR: Greenskins

In this new series of articles I will be taking a look at the mounts in Warhammer Online.  I was inspirered by the guide-master himself, Gaarawarr.  There are actually quite a few mounts for each race.  First up is the Greenskins, who wouldn't want to ride a boar around?

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

While we wait

It seems that the launch of Distant Worlds has been delayed, but it should still be out this week.  I was hoping to post impressions today, but that will likely be next week.  Fear not my friends, the  folks over at Codeforce have something to tide us over.

Weekend Warfronts

With the 1.3.4 patch, Mythic moved a bunch of scenarios out of the campaign and placed them in the Weekend Warfront rotation.  I think we've done 4 or 5 of them so far... wow, has it been that long already?  How have they been and were they a good idea?

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Din's Curse Demo

Recently, Soldak Entertainment released a demo (Windows and Mac) of their upcoming action rpg, Din's Curse.  I have been following and posting about this game for a while, so it was a no-brainer to downloaded.  So far, it is pretty fun and I have a video about the game in the works.  If you want to try the game out, you can find the demo here.

1.3.5 Class Changes Part 2

Last week I posted about some of the upcoming class changes in store for 1.3.5.  Bright Wizards and Sorcerers drew the short straw and had some abilities altered and damage reduced.  Rune Priests and Zealots will be seeing some of their abilities buffed.

Expansion News

Last week at the game Developers Conference, UGO interviewed EA/Bioware manager Ray Muzyka.  Among the topics discussed was Warhammer Online.  He said several interesting things about the game and its future, including expansions.  That would be pretty big news, but does it mean what we want it to mean?

Friday, March 19, 2010

News from the Front 3/19

It was a good week in WAR for me.  Tirew reached RR62, my Rune Priest made it to to Rank 33 and I even got a level on my Iron Breaker.  I really should be spending more time on my Slayer though as he is going to be my Butchering character.  I would love to be making some armor and toughness potions.  As usual, the WAR community has been active, lots to read.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Distant Worlds

Civilization and Master of Orion are probably my favorite game series of all time.  Civ lives on, but the Master of Orion type games (4x) are not as common anymore.  That's why I am very excited for a new game called Distant Worlds.  It comes out Tuesday, I can't wait!

1.3.5 Class Changes

Along with city changes, Mythic is also planning to introduce some class changes in 1.3.5.  They are taking an incremental approach, so the changes are not sweeping.  Rune Priests and Zealot's will see some positive changes while the Bright Wizard and Sorcerer will have some abilities toned down.  In this article, I'll go over the latter.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

From the forums...

Two pieces of news today, both coming from the forums.  First, the changes I mentioned in Striking the Balance will not be going in for 1.3.5.  If they are not certain then more time is the right way to go.  I was looking forward to this, so I am a little disappointed.

Secondly, the forums themselves are getting a bit of an adjustment:

Throughout the day we will be updating the forums with some exciting changes including the addition of a General Discussion Forum!
With this forum we will be consolidating several areas of the forums including crafting, PvE, and others. Additionally to better listen to career feedback we will be consolidating career discussions into archetype discussions making it easier to gather and engage you in your discussions. We'll have more information about this and the moderation program on the Herald after the changes are complete, thank you!

Vanity Pets

Did you know Warhammer Online has some non-combat vanity pets?  Of course, these aren't your cutesy critters from that other game.  As WAR is all about the fighting, there isn't a huge selection.  There are also some mystery pets, continue on for the list.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Mo' Money

One area that Mythic wants to focus on in the 1.3.6 patch is the economy.  As we saw last week, making more items Bind on Equip, is one idea they are kicking around.  While this will certainly give players something to buy and sell, it doesn't help the PvPer all that much as they need a good source of gold.  What can be done?

Monday, March 15, 2010

Striking the balance

The upcoming changes to the city siege system may be the most exciting part of 1.3.5, but it is not the most important.  Mythic will be changing the way classes benefit from the weapons they use.  In the process, they will be taking a look at damage across the board.  So, what does this mean for you?

Friday, March 12, 2010

News from the Front 3/12

As we head deeper into March, Mythic has started to talk about 1.3.5 and 1.3.6 a bit more. We still don't know when 1.3.5 will land on the PTS, but it probably isn't too far off.  The greater WAR community has been especially active the last couple of weeks, did it continue?

Thursday, March 11, 2010

WAR's Economy

As I mentioned yesterday, Mythic is looking for feedback on some of their upcoming patch ideas.  Only the one about improving the WAR economy is causing me some concern.   There is a lot to say about this topic, but I am going to make it concise as possible. There is a TLDR version at the bottom too.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Mythic wants your feedback

Mythic has created new threads over on the official forums asking for feedback.  Three future patch topics are covered:
I'm still digesting the info, so I'll refrain from posting opinions until tomorrow. I will now quote the great sage, Meat Loaf.  "Two out of three ain't bad"

Tools of WAR: Loyal Pet

In this video series, I plan to show some of the interesting add-ons which are available for WAR.  I'm not a big add-on user, but I think that a lot of them can be helpful and make the game even more enjoyable.  Continue on for the first Tools of WAR.

NOTE 8/15/2011:  LoyalPet can also be found here.

Werit takes on The Order

I've talked about Gratuitous Space Battles a few times in the past.  It's a fun and original space combat strategy/simulator game from Positech Games.  Recently, they offered me a review copy of GSB's latest expansion pack, The Order.  As I enjoy the game, I happily accepted.  For my impressions and a video, continue after the jump.

Does the Underdog System work?

One problem WAR has been fighting with since launch is one realm dominating the other.  Often this was due to population imbalances, organizational issues or just a loss of morale.  In 1.3.3 we were introduced to the Underdog system which was supposed to help.  Has it worked?

Friday, March 5, 2010

News from the Front 3/5

Is WAR's population on the rise?  It sure feels like it.  Over the past week I have seen an influx of new players and players returning to the game.  The same applies to the blog community, as three new blogs have joined the scene. For a complete rundown, read on.

Getting Involved

The Warhammer Vault over at IGN is looking for some help.  They are in need of news hounds, columnists and artists. While they may not be paid positions, they do offer a great opportunity.  It gets you involved with the WAR community, including players and developers.  It's a great way to get your name out there and make some contacts too.

Getting more out of your pet

I've been playing WAR for more than 18 months and am still learning new things all the time.  My Engineer is a great example.  I never really used his turret (pet) much due to the low damage and inability to really control it.  A few days ago, I found out it can be controlled.

Weekend Warfront Rewards

Weekend Warfront's are like other live events, you get a task list and three levels of rewards.  The elite level reward was nice, as it gave you extra scenario Emblems for winning.  The lower tiered rewards were not as desirable.  How can they be improved and what can we expect from future Weekend Warfronts?

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Ironclad Improvements

WAR's first Weekend Warfront has come and gone.  Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.  One of the nice things about scenarios, like The Ironclad, only making an appearance every so often is that it can be improved more easily.  While fun, I think there are some things that can be done to make The Ironclad even better.

Neglect

The past few months have been an amazing time to be a gamer.  There have been so many good games released that I've had a hard time keeping up.  In fact, I have even been neglecting games that I enjoy.  It turns out that I am a two game kinda guy.  Even so, I feel a little bad about the games I just don't have time for.

Scurvy Dogs is live!

The first of WAR Weekend Warfront is live, Scurvy Dogs.  Along with the new Ironclad scenario, it brings its own set of tasks and rewards.  For a look at the task list and elite reward, continue on!

News from the Front 2/26

Another busy week for WAR,  February has been a very interesting month for the game.  In this weeks news, we have several Ironclad videos, articles from Mythic, a new guide and more.  1.3.4 is live and the WAR population has swelled with a lot of old names and faces.

Highlights

Yesterday, Mythic released the February Producers Note on us all.  It weighs in at over 1,600 words and is full of interesting information.  The biggest news is Carrie Gouskos has taken over as WAR's Franchise Producer.  She had quite a bit to say.

WAR News with a side of DAoC

Today is a big day for WAR...
Back to the Dark Age has a very nice interview with a Mythic Developer, Adam Coleman.  There is a lot of good info in here about Dark Age of Camelot's future, so check it out.
