Every once in a while I get in a hyper creative and productive mood. The Arsenal of WAR was born out of one of them. In between these periods I am quite content just playing games. Over the past week I have have fallen into one, leading towards me trying to complete a long time goal. I want to create (and finish) a video game.
I have no delusions that it will be easy, so the game I am working on is quite simple. It's not my 'dream game', but it includes a lot of elements that would be used in it. Modern game engines also make my goal reachable. I've decided to use Unity3d, which is actually pretty amazing. It really does take care of all the cumbersome details allowing you to focus on the game.
I'm not quite ready to talk about either game yet (Yikes, I sounds like them). I will say that the simple game is just a spin on a classic. It's not anything I'd want to sell since actually finishing it would be the real payoff. Progress has actually been pretty good and I am confident about completing it. Once I do, then it will be time to take what I learned and apply it to the bigger game.
Of course, if I am making a game in my free time then I'm not playing them as much. I think it is a good trade-off, at least for the time being. WAR will still be played though, the sound of coins jingling off of a fallen enemy is just too addicting.
