Rift Plans

With Rift's head start happening in 3 days, I figure it is time to decide on what I am going to do.  I can't believe the launch is already here, where has the time gone?  I did pre-order, so I am all set to play on Thursday.  Read on for more information about my plans.

First decision, what kind of server.  There are PvE, PvP, RP-PvE and RP-PvP servers to choose from.  I don't really have the time or inclination to RP anymore, so I'll scratch those off.  Besides, I'm sure a lot of so-called PvPers will roll on a RP server in the belief they will find easy prey.  So that leaves PvE or PvP.

It's no secret I like PvP.  What I don't like is ganking.  In this context ganking means killing players who are trying to do PvE.  I also have not seen any indication of a mechanic that lets high level players go back to lower level zones.  Fighting high-level players just to get to the PvE content I need to advance is pretty frustrating.

All that being said, I will be rolling on a PvP server.  Trion is putting some thought into their PvP ruleset which will hopefully encourage world PvP.  Besides, generic PvE is usually just too boring for me (with a few exceptions).  The downside is that if I find myself having to fight players who should not be in the zone, I will get frustrated and stop playing.

Next decision, my class.  I will probably roll a Rogue.  I think this will be an extremely popular class, especially on the PvP servers.  You can do Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, Tank, Light Healing and you can get permanent stealth.  In a game that will feature a lot of ganking, stealth will be important just to survive.
