Oh yea, some game called Rift launches. I'm surprised that no one is really talking about it. They really should do something about their marketing. Launch day is an interesting time for a game. It might be laggy, buggy and frustrating but that is all a part of the fun.
I really should wait a few days to play, when the starter area is not packed with people fighting over mobs. There is just something about that new MMO smell that I can't resist. Can't forget to go get my character names too. I have not decided on them yet, might be Werit, might not be.
Syp wrote a great article about the different phases of pre-launch hysteria. I admit that I fell into that cycle at one time. Now, not so much. Maybe it is because I'm older and have a lot of other things to occupy my my attention. Or it could be that I'm really not excited about any MMO's on the horizon.
That's not true, I am excited about SWTOR. I don't really want to know much about it though. When I play for the first time, I want there to be as much mystery as possible. Cataclysm is a great example of how too much information can be a bad thing. From reading all of the coverage, I felt like I had played it all before it even launched.
Today will likely be a frustrating experience in Rift, so remember to try and have some fun. There is plenty of time to get to the level cap.
