Last weekend, Mythic tried something new with a couple of their scenarios. Gromil Crossing and Thunder Valley had their player amounts upped from 12 vs 12 to 18 vs 18. The goal was to increase the action by increasing the amount of participants. Did it succeed? Continue on for a video.
I made a short video of some of the action over the weekend.
I'm not sure I'd call the experiment a success or failure. Increased team size does seem lead to more action, but the scenarios just did not pop enough for me to say for sure. Smaller scenarios fill up faster and pop more often, especially since players can queue for them all.
Even with larger teams, Thunder Valley is still not something I want to queue for. Too often the match devolves into chasing each other around from objective to objective without much fighting. There is potential though, possibly through the addition of PvE. TV already has the NPC bombers to use... so perhaps making it 24 vs 24 and adding more interesting elements like that will help. I don't think it can hurt.
I like these kind of experiments, as they makes things a bit more interesting. In the future I think they should do them within the Weekend Warfront framework, since people will queue up especially for them.
