1.4.2 Patch Notes

Last week, Warhammer Online's 1.4.2 Patch landed on the PTS.  Turned out to be a bit earlier than expected, which was a nice surprise.  While there are no major new features, this patch does include some critical gear balancing.  Read on for more about what this new patch means for WAR.

You can find the full patch notes here. I've chosen a few import changes to talk about...

Effective Levels.  When the renown cap was raised to 100, effective levels were added so that new gear would not cause players to cap a number of stats.  This lead to a widening of the power gap, which many thought to be too much.  1.4.2 will reduce the effective levels by ~80% (20 to 4).

Gear Changes.  As a result of the above change, all gear intended for above  Renown Rank 80 will see their stats decreased by quite a bit.  This includes the new scenario weapons, Warpforged, and Doomflayer armor sets.  Some people are understandably upset at the changes to items they out in a lot of time for, but it seems like this will be a mostly welcome change.

Scenario Changes.  The scenario lineup has changed.  I'm glad to see them making more of an effort to keep them fresh.  Some of the new ones, like Thunder Valley, are not very popular but it will be switched out at some point.

New Pets.  A few new pets will be added to the EA Store, some of which give a 5% gold bonus while active.  I'm not very interested in these, but I am sure some people will be.

Mourkain Temple.  It seems this scenario is getting a layout change.  The bobble which is picked up is now located within the temple instead of the outside.  There was no inside before, so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Overall this patch seems a bit small.  The balancing changes were a necessity though,  so it may have preempted whatever they had planned.  If you had issues with the gear gap, this should be a patch your interested in.  No word on when these changes will go live, but there is a date on the patch notes which says 4/19.

This is going to be a busy week for WAR on Werit's Blog, so stay tuned.
