Fallen Earth Brings the PvP

Fallen Earth is a game I have not played in a while, ever since they gutted a lot of their staff.  Recently, they have a couple things going on that makes me think about trying it out again.  First is the fact that they are now a Free to Play game.  By itself though, it is not enough to bring me back.

Secondly, and the really tempting reason, is their latest dev blog about PvP.  Here's a blurb...

The Territory Control area has 13 control points that Factions can hold. These control points work a lot like the existing Faction Control system, but with some nice additions. Six of the points are out in the open and will be harder to defend and maintain control of. The other seven points are actually inside of keeps (including one bad-ass huge keep in the middle of the area) that will provide much better defense, as well as some other nice perks.

If I remember correctly, there are 6 factions in fallen Earth, that's even better than 3 :)  Stuff to fight over is an important part of any PvP system.  Now the question is why...

If your faction holds any of the 13 control points in the area, you'll get a nice buff that will improve based on the number of points you control. That improvement will max out at 4 control points. The buff will increase death toll, faction, and experience earnings and will also give a nice boost to the major offensive combat skills.
And then there's what you're all really fighting over: resources. When you control a point, you'll have the ability to create and place your own harvesters that will generate some nice resource nodes in the area surrounding your control point.

So you can get buffs and resource nodes, the latter of which is pretty important to crafting.  The control points themselves sound pretty varied.  There are some keep mechanics with some of them that have destructible doors and walls.

So yeah, that all sounds pretty good to me.

Silent but deadly

No, not that kind of SBD.  The latest State of the Game is out for Fallen Earth and it is quite large.  I am a bit behind in my Fallen Earth posts, I blame Mythic and the Xbox 360 for my negligence.  The letter is too large for a single post to hold, so consider this a preview.

Why you should be playing Fallen Earth and not WoW

Today I am doing something a little different, a guest post!  Youngblood, of 16bit Radio, wants to talk a bit about why you should play Fallen Earth and not WoW.  Can't say I disagree with him, these are some great reasons to try out Fallen Earth.  Enjoy!

It takes skills

One thing I have always neglected in Fallen Earth has been my skills.  Since I have been concentrating on crafting, I only needed the most basic of combat training.  In order to actually progress, I figured it was time to complete some quests and get on with the story.

Get Fallen Earth for free!

Time is running out to get Fallen Earth for free! I only have a few keys left, better get one while you can.  Check out the original post for details.  The 1.5 patch has gone live, so it is a great time to jump in.

What happens in the Wasteland...

When you're fighting for survival against mutants, giant bugs and your fellow man, it is nice to have a place where you can relax, drink a few "beverages" and lose some of your hard earned chips.  Taverns/Bars are a relatively recent addition to Fallen Earth, so I figured it was time I checked them out.

Spring Cleaning

In a post last week, I wrote about my efforts to bring my Fallen Earth character back in line with my goals.  Since that is done, the next step is to do a bit of spring cleaning.  It is very easy to become a pack rat in FE.  Eventually it just became too much, so I had to make a change.

Clone Respeccing

For the past few weeks I have been playing a bit more of Fallen Earth.  I've actually played the game since launch and have never really quit.  One of the things I like about FE is that compared to most modern MMO's it is quite complex due to the skill system.  As a result, I was very happy when they announced a one time respec

Neglect

The past few months have been an amazing time to be a gamer.  There have been so many good games released that I've had a hard time keeping up.  In fact, I have even been neglecting games that I enjoy.  It turns out that I am a two game kinda guy.  Even so, I feel a little bad about the games I just don't have time for.

!work - Holiday Edition

Christmas eve has to be the longest day of the year when you're at work.  I likely will not be posting again until next week, so everyone have a great holiday.  Here is some stuff to do instead of watching the clock.

First Night

Keg End isn't the only holiday event in town.  I've also been playing Fallen Earth and their First Night Event.  I was hoping to put together a video but decided against it.  I still have not found a way to make watching me going after resource nodes exciting.  I do have some nice pictures though.

Werit goes Camping

Fallen Earth introduced Camping in yesterdays 1.2 'Social' patch.  Using the new Construction skill, you can create semi-permanent structures in the game world.  Of course I had to check this out, so I went on a camping trip.

!work

My post about last nights WAR PTS event will be out on Monday.  Until then I'll leave some keywords for it:  200+ Players, little to no lag and Oooh Shiny.  I have some nice battle footage to go along with it.  Now onto the !work list.

Q&A with Fallen Earth's Wes Platt

The last time we talked with Fallen Earth developer Wes Platt, it was just before launch.  Since Fallen Earth has been out for a few months, I wanted to catch up and see what they were up to.  Wes was kind enough to answer some more questions.  Thanks Wes!

Werit: Fallen Earth launched a couple of months ago.  It seems to have gone pretty well from a players standpoint.  How was it from your perspective?

Wes Platt: It was the first major MMORPG launch I've ever been involved with. From my point of view, it was a great experience. Turning the game loose on the world, letting people play what I had a hand in creating, that's really exhilarating. We've received a lot of positive feedback on our missions – especially the character dialogue – so that has meant a lot to the writers who put so much time and energy into crafting the stories that we set out to tell in Fallen Earth.

Two great Steam deals

Want something to be thankful for?  How about digital distribution and the great deals that can be had.  First up on Steam we have Fallen Earth for $25.  Not only is it a great price, you get a special Faction t-shirt in-game item.  It bears the emblem of your faction and gives +stat increases.

Also on Steam is the THQ Complete pack for $50 (50% off until Monday).  This sucker has 18 games in it!  Titans Quest, Saints Row 2, Warhammer: Dawn of War I and II, Company of Heroes and more are all included.

Have a good holiday, and for those non-US folks, have a good day at work? ;)

Borderlands and Fallen Earth

Bronte, over at Are We New At This, got a chance to interview the President and CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, about Borderlands.  It is a very interesting interview, so check it out.  Part 1, Part 2.

One of the Fallen Earth forum goers made a music video for the game using A Horse with No Name. It is extremely well done, take a look after the break.

Classy

Just because it's the apocalypse doesn't mean you have to wear those instruments of death and destruction.  Fallen Earth announced a new bonus when you purchase the game which is sure to get you looks around the canyon.

Fallen Earth Friday

It has been a crazy week for gaming.  I've played Torchlight, WAR, Dragon Age, GSB and a little Fallen Earth.  The Halloween Event ended but I did manage to get my shotgun.  Sadly, I am not skilled enough to use it yet.  I do have some pictures of some other stuff though.

Friday Black-Hole

Does it feel like a black-hole is stationed next to your cubical, slowing time down to a crawl?  Each second seems to take longer than the next.  Sure, you could buckle down and work, but who are we kidding?  The answer is out there, somewhere (like after the break).
