Choosing a Class

One of the first steps into a new MMO is to decide on a class to play.  I will often see questions from new players asking which is needed or which is the best.  This is something I've never been able to relate to, as those thoughts have never come up.  My criteria for a class is a bit different.

It really comes down to the idea behind the class and the look for me.  A few years ago when I first started to read up on Warhammer Online, I took a look at the career list.  I was perusing the careers... Dwarf, guns, turret... SOLD!  That's all it took and I never looked back.

The same applies to The Old Republic.  I could trape around in a bathrobe (or curtains for an old movie reference) or I could wear heavy armor and carry a gigantic gun.  Hmmmm, yeah I'll go with the Trooper.  That's just my style.  In fact, I plan on playing all of the non-Force using classes first.  They just are much more appealing.

The power of the class has no bearing on my enjoyment, as evidenced by the Engineer I've played since launch.  The Archmage could be the strongest and most needed class in WAR, but I wouldn't respect myself in the morning if I played one.  No offense to you AM players of course ;)

So how do you go about picking a class?
